Experiment in fear.

Blood stained the hard concrete of the cellar around the hospital bed where the vagrant was secured. Marius was careful to avoid it as he approached the bound prisoner. Though he did make sure that none of the blood hand broken the ritual circle and wards locked in around the bed. He had abducted the man, bound him to the bed and then shed his blood over the course of nearly a week of daily torture.

Hearing the approaching footfalls of his tormentor the man began to weep and blubber in a confusing mix of fear and rage, the ball gag in his mouth preventing much sound from escaping. The man had tortured him without ever once asking a question or making a demand.

Marius looked down at his prisoner. The Bosniak had regrown some of that thick beard over the week of torture. Though a highly skilled interrogator, Marius wanted no information from his captive nor did he do this out of sadism. He derived no great pleasure from inflicting pain, but he needed this man's fear, he needed to crack his mind and plunge him into a deep gulf of terror. The torture had been the first step.

With a gloved hand Marius gripped the man by the jaw and examined him carefully under the single bulb of dim light within the underground chamber. He then made certain that the intravenous drips and feeding tubes were all still in place. He didn't want the man perishing from injury or malnutritian. This prisoner had been specifically chosen because he'd already witnessed atrocities during the Bosnian war. Seeing everything was secure he stepped away from the man and went to over to the table where the various scapels, screws and needles he had used in earlier tortures lay. He ignored the increased struggles of his prisoner. Picking up a needle he began filling it and proceeded to step over to the Bosniak again. He could have merely injected the drug into the man's IV, but he wanted the man to see it and feel it as it pierced his neck. The Chloral hydrate was squeezed into the prisoner and the Marius stepped away. As the tortured man began to slip into the safe arms of sleep, Marius spoke to him for the first time.

"There will be no sanctuary for you there." He said in Bosnian before his words were transformed into an arcane chant. Peeling off his gloves, he placed his hands to the man's temple and continued chanting. In this setting, within the circle and in physical contact with his subject the warlocks power over dreams was far greater. The poor Bosniak's nightmares had only just begun. Eventually he would break. It might take days or even weeks, but he would die of fright, of that Marius would make certain.
