Maybe she had been wrong in picking Xavier over Memphis. Her heart was telling her how wrong she had been. Her head too. Why had she picked Xavier. What insanity had she been on? The lines blurred between needing the affections of another wolf and thinking that she could be with him. Mocha latte arms circled her legs as she sat on her bed. The morning light shinning brightly through her windows. The heat touched Lyric's body as she sighed softly. She had already changed the locks of her condo. Perhaps she could just sell it. Though she did love that little place. A perfect hide away. No, she'd keep it. Make new and better memories in it. She hoped with Memphis.
Warm hands moved through her hair as she stood from the bed. She needed to get ready for the day. All the while her mind went back to the recent events. One of her condos burning down, filling out the police report, and now finding out that the man was fine. The chaos around her also made her realize things about herself. Realizations of how she really felt. Some people hide behind their shields. Some hide by burring themselves in work. Others were masters at hiding in plain sight. Lyric was a little of all three. Her emotions were her shields. The sweetness the love she had for everyone, and the simple fact she didn't allow herself to fully fall for anyone. The times when she believed she was remotely in love with someone, such as with Xavier, she knew she wasn't. Why was she so hell bent on going for the men that weren't good for her? She had been on the right track in feeling something for Memphis. She was progressing and when Xavier came around she knew he was trouble. Trouble from the moment he kissed her. Often comparing him to both Kyle and Sirus. They brought her nothing but heartache and soon headaches. Xavier was no different. She had known from the very start. So why? Maybe, there had been a slight hope that he was different. She had been wrong.
Hands moved clothes around as she grabbed a pair of jeans and a shirt. She was going to head to the bar today and take inventory, among other things. Not that she needed to. Memphis could do all that on his own. He was capable. Granted he wasn't completely perfect with paper work. That was where Lyric was more skillful than Harry. Memphis had other skills that she was not good at. But he never said anything, just always quietly helped her to learn what she didn't know. Always aiding her in the smallest ways. That was part of his charm. A smile slowly, unknowingly formed on Lyric's lips thinking of the baldy. As soon as it formed she frowned instantly. She wasn't good enough to be thinking of Memphis like that anymore. He'd certainly dislike her if not hate her for what she did. From texting him almost everyday to nothing when she was around Xavier.
Why had she been such an idiot! Jeans were tossed angrily on the bed. She was more upset at her own stupidity than anything else. Xavier wasn't the one for her. She had known that from the start. That little hope she thought she saw something in him that could change was just her projection. Perhaps, yes in a way Xavier was changing. She guided him as much as she could. She couldn't do it anymore. She couldn't because it was wrong for her to be with him anymore.
Pulling on her clothes. She would dress silently. Lyric gathered her purse and keys once she was done. Hair would be set in a messy bun for the time being. She was going to work. It was another of her forms of hiding. She needed to check on the condo and the damage of it. What was taking so long in finding the cause. For the time being she hosted the Aussie in another one, making him pay for this new condo as well. She was going to make him pay for the damages if the fire report pointed fingers in his direction.
Stopping by Xavier's room for a moment she placed a box on his bed. Within it was the key that went to the lock around his neck with a note underneath. It read simply: "I can't do this anymore. You're not in my heart the way Memphis is and always will be." She knew where her heart belonged. It wasn't with him. It would never be with him. Why did she think that anyone else could change the way she felt about Memphis? Why did she think Xavier could change how she felt? It was a hard lesson to learn. To know that perhaps in a way she had found the person she was meant to be with and nearly messed that up. She didn't know how Memphis felt about her. She was scared to know, to be turned down by him. Which was the main reason why she had been with Xavier. There was no fear that he would turn her down. He had been easy. No work to be with him at all. But that's not what true love was about. If you didn't work for it, then it wasn't meant to be. If you didn't fight for that person then there was just no reason to care for them.
Walking out of the room, she headed down the stairs to leave the house. A mental check list of things she needed to do while she was out and about. Perhaps finally she would just tell Memphis how she felt. Just let him know. Even if Dakota's leaving was still raw for Memphis, she had to let him know that she would be there. That there was no turning back now. He was it for her. He was the man she loved and wanted. Lyric couldn't fool herself anymore. It was time to finally be true to herself, her heart and not be so scared to fall in love. It was Memphis' strength and heart that had done her in. The way he could walk into a room and instantly make her smile. Even now as she drove to the police station, a smile was forming. It was his carefree being, his walk, his talk the way he could just be there and instantly Lyric felt completely and utterly safe. No pretence. She could be herself with Memphis and he would never expect her to be otherwise. From now on for Lyric it was Baldy or bust.
