Growing Roots.

The lobby to the main building in the police plaza was if anything, antiseptic. The place was as close to an operating room as could be. The white flourescents seemed to cast a very wide light on the walls, making them nearly glow with cleanliness. The floor was freshly waxed from the smell and even the plastic benches the color of blue seemed spotless.
Seth sat on one of these benches. His head was looking back and forth along the walls, staring at plaques of long gone police officers and politicians that had made there name known in one way or another among these hallowed halls. For moments he stared along a picture of what he assumed was part of the relief effort after the Pearl Harbor bombings. It was black and white and showing police officers with torn and filthy uniforms pulling men from the oil slicked water. All that seemed to shine on the officers were the metal badges still clasped over their hearts.
He turned his azure gaze towards a woman walking towards him and as he stood she spoke, a clear Hawaiian accent with blonde hair. Sure why not.
     "Are you Mister Racoa?"
He was amazed she got the name on the first try but then again, Hawaii was known for odd names. He nodded as he straightened the suit jacket he wore. For the application process he was dressed in a nice suit with pressed khaki slacks a blue tie that went well with the royal shirt he had underneath that seemed to bring out those azure eyes of his. "Yes ma'am I was hoping to submit an application and resume to your department."
Seth handed the woman who as of yet was unnamed in his book. She glanced it over and he could see the surprise in her eyes when she scanned over what was probably, "You are wanting to join the Regional Preternatural Department?"
Yup that was what he was afraid of. Like most departments in the states, he had once more reasoned that the RPIT was the black sheep of the family. However in his Resume he made it no secret that he was a Lycanthrope. He just knew that most departments worried about putting a lycanthrope on the street as a beat cop, but if you lumped him in with the rest of the freaks, then why not. Depending on the departments stance, it was also a good PR ploy to shove a lycanthrope in front of the cameras during press time, to show the true diversity of the department, or something like that. Seth had it explained to him a long time ago by one of the politicians in Detroit, but much like anything said by an elected official, it went in one ear and out the other.
"Yes, actually, with my degree I thought it would be a good department to fully use the skills that I have." He kept it short and sweet with a winning smile on his features. If he could he would have tried any type of hocus pocus he knew if he could, but of course that was a form of illegal. He just stood there like a man in front of a firing squad.
Finally she gave a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, and then spoke, "Well I will put this in for review and hopefully you will get a call in a few days, thanks for coming"
The thanks for coming almost got a wince as he held his hand out and she didn't reciprocate. Figures most humans still believed that lycanthropy was like the AID's virus in the eighties. You couldn't catch it by casual contact people! That was what he wanted to yell as he just nodded with another smile and bid the woman good day.
Days later the application folder found it's way into the mailbox of the RPIT. It was worn and had what appeared to be a bootprint on it, but nonetheless was there.
