Had been nearly a week since the fight had broke out upstairs in her room above the surf shop. There had been so much shouting from behind the bedroom door the walls could not contain it all. Everything started when Jack stopped by, leaving a gift for her that you did not give to just anyone. The white gold bracelet had to cost a pretty penny, and the card left with it said a lot more then just the average friendship I love yours. At first it was just one of their normal arguments, they had them nearly every day just snapping back and forth about little things. It always ended in a laugh, a kiss and I am sorry whispered before the lights went out. Cody was not at all what Ace had ever expected herself to be attracted to. He was rough around the edges, rude most of the time. Lacking in people skills, and talked like a thug, behaved like a thug, it was something safe that she knew would not go much of any where. .
But he was not like that under the facade. There was a logical mind under it all and he may not seem it all the time. But he was always watching her with this need to make sure she was all right. Commitment was the main issue behind the fight. Ace had admires. Gabe, and Jack who called and left voice mails, messages, or sent presents. The dead man in pictures all over her bed room that she needed to start putting away. Ace was seeing only one person, that was the Asian fox who she more often fought with then any thing else. Why in gods name was she arguing with him in the first place? Why was it so hard for her to Just say yes I am with you and only you! Why was it so hard to put a name on what was between them? It was a relationship! Boyfriend girl friend, lovers, companions, what ever you wanted to call it? Becasue she always had someone else in the back of her mind. It was the only reason.
Cody stormed out, they had not spoke two words to each other since. It had Ace sinking fast in to this melancholy state wondering what could be done to fix it. She was leaving 3 to 5 voice mails a day. Today though would be the last call till he called her back. That's what she kept telling herself. Walking though the park, going over what she was going to say over and over again in her head. Finally she dialed out the number and waited for the message to pick up again.
"Hi baby. Things are dull around the shop with out you. Competition starts in a few days. I not sure If I am going to compete or not. Would love to have you there if you can make it. Cody, You were right, if that makes any differences. Call me please.... at lest let me know if your all right.... or not."
She hung up. stuffed the phone back in her pocket to get back to the errands she had to finish running for the day.
