The interview had been scheduled for Monday, so when the day came and went without any news from Faith Ash was almost instantly worried. There was just a nagging sense of doom in the back of his mind. Just two days ago he had saved the reporter from Victoria and then the very next day sent her off to the jaws of another beast. What on Earth had he been thinking? Shane was dangerous, he knew that first hand, so why had he thought Faith would be safe infiltrating that devil womans space? With a frustrated sigh he picked up the phone and dialed Faith's number.
When the beep sounded he left a swift message.

"Faith, this is Ash. I'm calling to make sure you're alright and see how the interview went. Give me a call back when you get this."

He didn't say goodbye, it was an old habit. Pacing for a moment he thought about what Faith had looked like on that beach, bleeding from the neck but still brave enough to make a rush for those keys. Ash had developed a certain respect for the woman. Felt a connection that was built from having done battle together. Well he had promised Faith an esclusive on the Painted Doll Murders, and Faith had certinly gotten that. Maybe more than she had been hoping for.

-Shane sat strraddling a chair, those leanly muscled legs stretched out and bowlegged so she could tap the toes of her combat boots together. The buckles on the side jangled lightly with each tap, tappety, tap. Her slender arms were folded over the back of the chair and her chin was lightly resting on them. Those eyes as black as pools of deep space were watching herself in a mirror, looking at all the androgynous glory that was her. In nothing but a lace bra and a pair of mens briefs she was about as dressed as she wanted to be. In the mirror she saw movement behind her and those glossy lips curled into a smile. The woman coming towards her was beautiful with a circus performers kind of chic. Covered head to toe in piercings and tattoos the woman had been hired to pierce paying clients at the shop. As she came toward her, Shane lifted her head and tipped it to one side, that boy short hair dangling in her face. As the needle was pushed through the middle of her ear she grinned wider, enjoying that feeling of being entered in a part of her body that was never meant for such things. The silver barbell was slipped through the center of her ear where cartilage had once been. A pleasent burn from the silver content. Once it was finished she slid back off the chair and left the girl to clean up. Jumping off the platform her boots hit the concrete floor with an echoing thud. Body moving with that gliding sensual ease that was one part bellydancer and one part trained soldier. When she reached the counter she picked up the phone from it's cradle and dialed Faith's number.-

"Hello my dear....jusssst calling to confirm our little dinner date for Thursssday. I look forward to seeing you again and finding out what we can do for thisss illustriousss career of yoursss. I'll see you here Thursday at seven."

In the unlikeliest moves, Faith left her cell phone off for most of the day. Ideally all it took was two rings and she answered, but not today. The woman needed some time to herself. To detox, to spoil herself rotten and to get away from it all if only for a day. Funny how the messages seemed to accumulate at the speed of light when she least wanted them to.

Reclining back on the overstuffed leather sofa, Faith sighed as the cool texture of the material molded to her skin. Sure it felt nice now, but it would be like getting a mini wax on the backs of her legs when she tried to get up later. But presently comfort won and she remained gratuitously relaxed. The air conditioner clicked on, the quiet whir filling the sparsely decorated living room. As she looked around the bare walls, there was that momentary urge to hang some pictures. Buy a shelf, maybe paint a wall in a shade other than white. The urge passed as quickly as it came. If Faith hadn't decorated the nearly empty space in the past two years, one more day wasn't going to make much of a difference.

With a lazy roll of her head, she looked over at the BlackBerry laying dormant on the coffee table and sighed. She'd have to check those messages eventually anyway, so better now than later.Leaning forward, she scooped up the bit of technological wonder and turned it on.Almost immediately after coming to life, the message alert beeped into life.Joy! Flicking her thumb over the scroll button, Faith selected the listen feature and fell back against the cushions, stifling a yawn as she listened to the first round of work related drivel that just flowed in one ear and out the other. Then the message from Ash and Faith bolted upright, smacking herself on the forehead as she hit reply. She waited for the rings and then the message. Now it was her turn to leave one.

"Hey Ash, Im fine, I completely spaced out. My bad. Yeah the interview went well. Not exactly what I expected but I can tell you more in person than over the phone. Let me know whens good for you. You know where to reach me. Bye."

One down few more to go. It wasn't till Faith got to the last message that she smiled. Now that was going to be a defiantly a fun evening. Frowning slightly Faith clicked the end button and sunk back into the couch, and kept frowning at the shadows behind the coffee table as she thought over the last message. Maybe it was just a long week, or women's intuition, but something just didn't vibe right in the air. Oh well, with a shrug Faith let the feeling roll off her shoulders as she finally got up off the couch. Now maybe she could do something productive after all. Seeing how deadlines didn't meet themselves.
