A message left for Marcus.

Evie paced the floors of her studio apartment, her fingers clutching the cellphone until her knuckles turned white. It was just a stupid phone call. Right? A stupid phone call that would practically sign her life away -- shh. No. Shut up, Evie. It wasn't signing her life away, mainly because she hardly had a life to speak of. When Evie wasn't working, she was sleeping or eating or avoiding Marcus. And while the last part would, yes, become impossible to do, she still had to. It was the right thing to do. And she wanted to do it.

Sighing, she finally opened the Blackberry phone, dialing the number she knew by heart, even if not by touch. She rarely called Marcus, and could honestly not remember the last time she had. The machine answered, just as she expected. It was still daylight. "Hey, Marcus. It's Evie." A silence followed where Evie considered hanging up the phone, considered breaking it into a thousand tiny pieces and then climbing on the next plain to Guatemala. Lovely coffee beans there, so she heard. But, rather than do what she wanted ... she did what she needed. "I talked to Alex, and he's ... sort of on board. For the whole ... you, and me thing. So ... I thought I'd call and tell you that ... he's on board." A pause followed, broken only after she took a deep breath. "So ... I'm on board, too." A beat, where the static of the world filled her ears, and she felt her shields waver. But it was okay. She had said what she needed to say. She'd pass out later. "Okay. Well. I'll talk to you later, then."

Deep breath.

"Iloveyoubye."

Click.
