The cell phone stared at her like it knew what she was thinking, and it found it highly amusing. Faith imagined that if the little piece of technological wonder could, it would have laughed in her face while making clucking noises.
Picking it up Faith flipped it over, face down, and glared triumphantly at the brand logo on the back. It still didn't make her any less of a chicken. Wincing, Faith lifted her fingers to her lips, feeling the bit of odd moisture there that tasted a lot like her blood. It took a second, but she pulled her lip away from her fang, forcing herself to calm down enough to stop ripping her own bottom lip to shreds. Damn it, and damn her nerves. All she wanted was to pick up the cell phone and make a call.
Later. There was always a later right? Right.
Getting up, Faith managed a few steps away from the shiny red BlackBerry before turning back around and snatching the thing right up. Using her slightly bloodied thumb, Faith scrolled through the phone book before finding the right number, and hit dial.
While it rang, and rang, and rang on the other end for like a hundred years, she busied herself with licking the bit of blood off her skin as the voice mailed picked up.
"Um...Shane! Hey it's Faith." Pause. "Danovan..." Another pause, during which Faith was trying very hard not to think too hard about saying the right thing, and just saying something. That's when the phone beeped in her ear, and promptly Faith picked out the "rerecord" option, pinching the bridge of her nose just before the beep.
"Shane, hey it's Faith. Um, I'm sorry I haven't called earlier, things have been...busy. To say the least. Nori might have filled you in on a few things already though. Listen, I don't know if you want to hear from me at all right now, but I'd really like to see you. So let me know when or even if, you want to meet up? At night if possible?" Letting a bit of a smile into her voice, Faith grinned down at the tops of her feet as she nodded at no one in particular. "Bye Shane. I miss you."
-Listening to the message she stretched out across the sofa in nothing but a pair of socks. That half starved looking androgynous body naked and glistening in the neon lights of the skate park. She was grinning from ear to ear, her glossy lips spread wide over teeth that looked dangerous. Nori hadn't really told her much about what had happened to Faith but could you blame the poor adorable psychopath? She had been going through quite a change of life lately. Leopard. Snake. Crazy fucking asian. It was a real schizo moment. So there were no hard feelings.-
-Hearing Faiths voice made Shane want to fuck something. Or maybe just eat something. Hard to differentiate. One slender hand slid over the barely there shape of her tiny tit and down the flat muscled plane of her stomach until she cupped the heat of her pussy in her fingers. How long had it been since she'd seen the reporter? Too long. And would her spell still have it's hold on her? Good question. And only one way to find out the answer. Using her free hand she dialed back Faiths number and left a message of her own.-
"Come to me baby doll. Climb in my window at night and try to make me ssscream. I'll be here."
-The message was simple enough. Or in Shane's mind it was. As she tossed the phone aside she sat up and stretched listening to the flexible bones of her spine cracking. The nest had been hibernating for a bit, as snakes sometimes did. But that was over now. It was time to get a better grip on the city. To feel the fear. She wanted it. Needed to listen to the quivering gasps of desperation from the people at her feet. Time to take it back. And she would start with Faith.-
"ALYCCCCE!"
-Shane screamed her wifes name and waited for the lady leopardess to come scrambling into the room at the call.-
"Take the day off ssssugar. But firssst I want an order of flowersss picked up and taken to ((insert address here)) Make them nice. And expenssssive."
-The flowers would be taken to Faiths old address which she no longer lived at, but no doubt Alyce would be redirected to the forwarding address wherever that might be. So not only would Faith get a phonecall but she would also get a bedraggled leopardess who had schlepped all over town to bring her some beautiful flowers. Sounded like a good deal.-

_*Shane's scream sent shivers racing down her back and she left the little project she'd been helping Crawley with and went to find out what the Kadra wanted. Shane had jokingly named Alyce her wife, but the joke was becoming way too much like the truth. If it weren't for Cologrio and Sojourn back at home then she might have been in a frazzle about the whole ordeal. As it was she composed herself by running fingers through her blonde hair to straighten it and then doing the same by brushing bits of debris from the skirt of her white sundress.*_
_*Alyce looked like a little star in the darkness of the snakes nest. All smiles and pretty dresses among the enemy. But in this case the enemy was her pards ally so she did what she must, but when she walked into the room and saw Shane on the couch touching or holding herself it made Alyce's pacific blue eyes go wide with surprise. Trying not to look she nodded at the instructions and immediately went to get her purse and leave to follow the directions. Crawley would have to finish the project without her or wait until her next visit. When the queen snake called you couldn't wait around to help the princess.*_
_*Driving to the nearest floral shop she took her time picking a bouquet that she would have liked to receive and just hoped that whoever these were for wouldn't be expecting something bizarre like blood soaked roses or anything. What she got was a bouquet of white orchids that were so large they were as big as her palm. There were nine blooms on the thin stalks and they were potted in a beautiful hand crafted jar. After getting them out to the car she thought more about the blood soaked roses idea. With a spark of inspiration she bit into the palm of her hand, tearing at her own skin until blood oozed to the surface. Then with a flourish she splattered the pure white orchids with her blood. Blood that carried the scent and strength of a leopard with it.*_
_*At the address she'd been given she was told the woman didn't live there anymore and was sent to another address. And when she got to the second address the sun was already down. But surprise surprise, that second address was a club called Bliss. That seemed strange but Alyce just picked up the pot of flowers and went with it. Once inside the club she found someone who worked there and asked for Faith. They sent her to someone else who sent her to someone else and just when she was about to give up a man pointed at a blonde who looked like she was about to leave the club.*_
"Faith? Faith Donovan?"
_*Alyce asked as she moved in on the blonde. Once she heard the womans recognition of the name she held out the pot of flowers.*_
"They're a gift, from Shane."
_*Alyce hoped Faith knew who Shane was because Alyce didn't know the Kadras last name and though she was blonde she was no bimbo and knew better than to scream IT'S THE SNAKE QUEEN in a crowded club.*_
Faith had nearly given up hope that she'd ever hear back from Shane. Not that she could blame the woman. Faith had become a part of a race of beings that not everyone wanted to love and hug. Hard to believe, but for some reason Vampires made people uneasy.
With the sun down for the night and her tummy grumbling, Faith was taking the public exit out of Bliss on her way to get some dinner. The cell phone was pressed against her ear as she diligently listened her way through the messages she accumulated during the day. Big Eddie called. Her mom called (that message left Faith feeling rather awkward.) Shane called. Wait. What? Backup. Lifting the cell phone, Faith quickly went back to the beginning and listened to the message again. A slow grin spreading across her features as she hung up. A few months ago that message would have left her blushing like a school girl. Now though, aside from not having enough blood in her system to blush, Faith was already thinking of the logistics of the request. And whether or not she'd need rope when the scent of fresh blood slammed into her like a bare knuckled fist.
It took the vampire (vampireses?) a few seconds to recover from the sudden jolt. The spill of the fake blood here and there never triggered her senses the way fresh plasma did. Must be a trait of still being labeled a newbie. What shook Faith out of her blood scent induced haze was a) someone not only called her by her name but they knew her last name too, and b) they were holding flowers. As an added bonus the scent of the blood seemed to intensify the closer they got.
Bloody flowers, those Faith kind of got (not really), how the woman knew her name, now that made her wonder. Only a few people in Rome knew who she was, and fewer still knew what she was. For a brief moment Faith allowed herself to entertain the idea that Azrael sent them as a joke. "Bloody flowers" it kind of fit. Brits loved to throw "bloody" around with just about everything.
That theory crashed and burned when the woman who smelled like blood, fur, sex and sunshine told her the delivery was from Shane. Instead Faith just gawked, yes gawked, at the woman in a sun dress holding the bloody bouquet. Realizing slowly that the blood she was smelling was that of the woman...no Lycan. And Shane sent the flowers. Was the woman holding them dinner or desert? Which just went to show you how different Faith's thought process was now.
"Yes I'm Faith and thank you for coming all the way out here..." Faith would have kept going except it was hard to miss the very obvious fact that the scent of fresh blood had managed to get not only her attention but that of the other sun challenged individuals who flocked to Bliss the second the sun went down. Whether the woman was planning it on it or not she was running a high risk of becoming somebody's dinner. " These are gorgeous, I probably better go and put them where they won't get trampled." Or licked clean. Faith tried to smile and be jovial, but being hungry combined with the smell of hot food..er blood within reaching distance was a test she did not study for.
Tilting her head over her shoulder towards the bar, Faith informed Alyce that if she wanted to get a drink or a bunch of them, she could just tack it onto Faith's tab. Least the vampire could do. Somehow slipping Alyca a couple of Euros as a tip didn't seem adequate enough. With Shane's words running through her head and with the scent of blood teasing her senses, Faith quickly headed for the entrance that would take her down to the tunnels bellow Bliss. In an intricate act of balancing the flowers in one arm she dug out her cell phone and quickly hit Dial once she pulled up Shane's phone number. While the phone rang (before going to voicemail yet again) Faith leaned towards the flowers, licking some of the blood off one petal just as the phone beeped in her ear.
