The evening had gone as well as Rowan could have expected it too. The diamonds and metals Varrick had on display were rather fantastic and Rowan was suitably impressed. Which made a whole new set of questions form in that brain of her's. Just where did he manage to acquire such a stash and why haven't they been properly cut and set before now? Why wasn't he going through a dealer? Why weren't they in a safe somewhere deep underground like a...valuable object should be. With that thought in mind Rowan paid a visit to her safe room, checking on the Book that was still resting comfortably in the canvas wrap. For the time being she was its guardian, and she would have never dragged it out for a show and tell session no matter what. Hmm, curious.
Leaving the book where it lay Rowan headed for the bathroom. The repairs have gone swimingly, and now the pale cream marble gleamed brightly at her as she turned on the faucet, letting the deep tub fill with the scalding liquid. While it filled, Rowan returned to the study, she had a thought or two she wanted to commit to paper.
The note pad was already covered in her neat writing. Thoughts circled and crossed out. Linked to each other by lines and dots. Picking up a pen, Rowan scratched out the three words that didn't matter anymore. "Human, Lycan, Djavo." Although after taking off the last one, Rowan wrote in "Fullblood D" and circled it a few times, drawing question marks around it to finish the thought. And what if he was? Food for future thoughts, for the moment Rowan's attention was drawn to the bracelet on her wrist. The diamonds sparkled merrily at her as she traced the outer stones. The bracelet was beautiful, and shiny, and looked stunning on her wrist in a way only jewelry that cost six digits or more could look. Not something you showered in no matter what Hollywood movies said. If they only knew how many stones were lost down the shower drains, Insurance companies would write a loss clause especially for that.
"Now come on, I have the perfect spot for you in my trophy case." Idle fingers slid over the surface of the bauble looking for a clasp that Rowan knew was there. She put the thing on didn't she. Problem was there was no clasp. Frowning now, Rowan spun the bracelet on her wrist, watching it sparkle all the way around. Yup, no clasp. Okay, maybe she was wrong about the clasp. Slipping her fingers around the bracelet, Rowan pushed it down on her wrist, over her thumb and off. Problem is it wouldn't budge. Lifting her wrist, Rowan watched the metal contour to her skin, leaving no space where she could slip her fingers. "The hell..."
At first it was fine. Rowan guessed there was simply a trick to taking the thing off. Then it stopped being fine and turned into annoying. The bracelet simply wouldn't come off and there was no trick that would make it do anything else. Not because it was stuck, or the clasp wouldn't work, it simply didn't budge. Moving up and down didn't help. It had an inch of space within which it left Rowan some wiggle room, beyond that, it stuck like glue. Pulling on it, twisting it, didn't help. Soap, olive oil, pliers, even holding it up to flame of the stove didn't do anything but singe the inside of her wrist. The pink flesh glared angrily at her while the stones in the bracelet sparkled happily, like they were in on the joke. It was as if the thing was enjoying itself. The tiny tendrils of power that wrapped around each diamond felt familiar now. With Varrick out of reach, Rowan could feel the charm worked into the stones. The more effort she put in into trying to take it off, the more obvious the power became. His presence masked it as well as a matt across a trap door. But take off the matt and there it was, glaring you in the face. Idly, Rowan scratched at the tender spot on her wrist, frowning as the bracelet seemed to vibrate in response to the movement. "Smug bastard, you think this is funny don't you." The diamonds simply sparkled.
When she finally took the thing off, Rowan would shove it up Varricks ass. She was sure of it. It would be bloody and messy and she would enjoy it immensely. Unless of course he didn't have any idea the bracelet was going to do that? Rowan laughed. She couldn't help it. If he had no clue, she was the Queen of England, and since she sure as hell knew that she wasn't, Rowan contented herself with the little fantasy till she could make it a reality.
There were only a few problems with the sit and wait and see game. She didn't know what the bracelet's purpose was. To poison her, to control her, to blow her hand off for the fun of it? Maybe. Possibly. Not like she could call Varrick and politely ask if he was aware his gift to her had a mind of it's own? Not yet. The Baroness, frowned at the paper in front of her and after a moment added "Fae" in a circle just bellow the D tag. Maybe, who knew. Sometimes the longest shots were the ones that worked out. For now she was stuck, and that meant any straw she grasped at could hold the answer. What ever that answer was, Varrick was going to pay dearly.
Varrick had shown her at the bookstore had been mere Illusion, of course. Reality for the few moments he had needed them to be for her to inspect them. He wasn't really about to carry around diamonds and precious metal just so that the lovely Baroness could have a look at them. Especially when all it took was a bit of thought on his part for a perfect replica. That had been the easy part.
The difficult part had been having her accept the bracelet of her own free will. And that too, had been easy enough. But not as easy and he had thought. Her lovely blue hues had widened at the sight of it, and he could tell she'd wanted to snatch it up, barely staying her hand. After a few cajoling words and sincere want for her to accept the pretty adornment, she had finally done so. A triumphant feeling had overcome him, laced into that secretive smile he wore.
"Well, did you have a good time?"
Varrick lifted his earthen hues from the door as he shut it, the glamour melting away as he moved further into the apartment. Now golden hues regarded the newspaper that Percival was reading, that smile reappearing. "Well of course Percival. She accepted the bracelet, just as I had planned." As Varrick reached the little dining table, he slid the baldric of Yx'kaelbyr from his form and leaned it carefully against the wood. Snow white fingers grasped the back of the chair and slid it out so that he could settle himself within. "We had gelato. It was quite delicious."
Percival bent the corner of the newspaper down to peer at the Fae. If he didn't know any better, he would actually say the Fae might be living a little. He no longer appeared to be the walking corpse of a being he'd been when Percival had first seen him in the bar. The feeling deepened when he saw the Fae's smile widen into a full fledged grin as he looked at his wrist. It was one of the most terrifying sights the Moor had seen in his lifetime, and with Varrick, he'd seen plenty of horrible things. Varrick settled his amber-gold hues on the Knight, that smile still there.
"She's trying to take it off." The comment was followed by a chuckle. Percival merely nodded, eyes widened a bit as he turned his attention back to the newspaper as Varrick, one of the scariest creatures to walk the earth, sat chuckling at the table.
