-:Memphis looked at the leader of this rugged band of fighters known as the CORE and watched the man once again shake his head. If Memphis asked again it would probably insult the bastard so he didn't push the issue. The pack had arrived in Rome and beyond Rivers little incident it had been smooth sailing, though he got a sneaky suspicion they had been followed. Turning to Loke he cleared his throat and rubbed a hand across his bald head.:-
"Silents got a place for us, so I guess....this is home."
-:It didn't feel like home though. Not without Ash. Memphis could feel it from the whole pack. This sense of longing and lonliness from missing their dark leader. Everyone seemed to be dealing with it in their own way, but Leni and Vinny seemed to be taking it harder than most. During the days of travel Memphis had tried not to think about what might have happened to their Ulfric, but at night the thoughts came and he couldn't stop them. Shaking his head he brought himself back to the moment, they were standing on the curb in front of a line of cars that had been shipped or bought for this very purpose.:-
"You're gonna check on the other stuff that the shipping company was gonna bring in right?"
-:He and Loke had worked surprisingly well together getting their little journey executed, but truth be told he needed a cigar and a drink to make any more company tolerable.:-
"Mind leading this caravan to the new house Loke? I got a date with a bottle that won't keep any longer."
-:At this rate he was gonna turn into the packs token alcholic, if a lycanthrope could even fit that bill. But after Dakota left there had been a hole so big inside him it felt like it couldn't be filled. And Lyric dying in his arms had done nothing to ease that pain. Life was pain. Plain and simple as that. Gritting his teeth he brushed his cheek to Lokes and let her lead the pack to where Silent was waiting at the new pack house, the Lupa no doubt eager to welcome her wolves home.:-
-:Stepping off the curb he hailed a taxi. Such an irony since his own would be coming over in a few weeks on a boat or whatever Loke had arranged for. Pulling open the back door he practically fell into the vehicle. Loving the pack was one thing, but a man needed a little alone time to nurse his wounds. Espcially wounds of the heart.:-
"Take me wherever theres an open bar."
-:The driver began to jibber at him in Italian and Memphis rolled his white-blue eyes. Jesus Christ, this was what he had to look forward to. Lifting his thick hands to make a pantomime of drinking he tried to signal what he wanted. The driver seemed to understand because he took off like a shot. Welcome Home Memphis. Good luck finding a cold margarita.:-
The bluetooth ear piece hadn't left her ear since they had gotten close to Rome. The closer they got the more she seemed to be talking in a hushed voice to the phatom voice in her ear. As if that wasn't bad enough, the blackberry phone in her hand was never put down. Already she had went through a spare battery and was just now plugging in the third as she stood a little behind Memphis. At least she had managed to catch up on sleep during the long trip. It was in preperation knowing that now that they had arrived that she might not catch more then a few hours of sleep a night before things had to be done. As if her internal clock was not already screwed up enough.
A simple nod was given to Memphis as she powered her Blackberry back up. A hand reaching out and patting Memphis shoulder, understanding more then she should the need to drink away the past. "You can count on me." Amber eyes watching the screen as she blinked a few times. Already the cargo shipments where waiting silently in the dock yard waiting for a trailer to come pick it up. Watching the taxi and the Freki drive away, she turned to the CORE leader, still completely uncomfortable being near him.
"Can we trouble you just a little bit more? I'd be easier if we could all arrive together instead of getting lost in Taxi's across town." She left the comment hanging and was answered with a chuckle from the man. Glancing around again at the faces in the windows of the Caravan, faces of the pack and of CORE alike. Soon they could settle down, sprawl out in beds and rest, mourn, recover, begin a new. Climbing back into the caravan, she leaned over the driver's seat and showed him the tiny map on her phone's Screen and the map on how to get there. It was much easier then trying to give directions. Once the course was plotted she settled back into the seat, finger touching the power button on the piece of machinery in her ear. Her voice was low as not to disturb everyone else. Speaking to her attorney who seemed to sleep even less then she did of late. Then again, with the loss of Hawaii and the loss of the Art Gallery, and the insurance payment coming in soon, it wasn't a real suprize that she had so many attorney's willing to work with her. Although Michael did it out of respect and friendship.
The trip wasn't long and she had to say a quick goodbye before shutting it off and staring out the front window as the flash of headlights caught on the Villa she had been given directions too. Amber eyes sparkled with unshed tears, finally the pack could start the long process of healing. Granted it was going to be even harder till the Ulfric returned, she had no doubt he would. But it would be hard until he was there. Standing once the Caravan's came to a stop just outside the front doors, she clapped her hands once.
"Okay folks, final stop. Lets get our stuff off the caravan's and get inside."
Trying to sound at least somewhat happy. So this was home huh? She stepped down out of the caravan, two bags slung over her shoulder before heading toward the doors and trying the lock. The night was eeriely quiet, cold with a slight wind that touselled the hair and rain icy fingers down the spine. The stars overhead seemed so wrong, in different places then they should be, the swelling cresent moon hung lazily overhead barily giving any light. The doors swong open and she pushed them further ajar and felt around on the inside wall before turning the outside lantern on as well as the main hallway light on. Tired faces greeted her, counting off faces. Leaving her bags at the door she returned to the caravan offering her hand to the people that had helped smuggle her family into Rome.
Arms were stretched over her head while she paced the sidewalk to stretch her legs. Their journey was coming to its end. Gaze turned toward Memphis when he addressed Loke.
So, this was home now, huh? Yeah, maybe someday it would feel that way. Right now it just felt like every other place they’d had to stop along the way. It was too new, too foreign from what she’d grown accustomed to. Not to mention the fact that they were without their foundation, their Ulfric. It left her feeling like one wall of a house, teetering on the verge of collapse because there was nothing stable under her feet. She was sure the others felt much the same way, which made it a little easier to bear.
Emerald hues watched as Memphis got in a cab to go find a drink. It sounded like a fine idea to her, even if it did cause her some worry for the man. She didn’t want to imagine the amount of pain he was in, nor did she particularly want to focus on part of that pain that was her own. Lyric. Fingers lifted to rake through her hair, turning her thoughts in another direction.
It was time to go. She waited until the others had loaded up before doing the same. Then they were off. She stared out the window oblivious to the passing scenery. A bone deep weariness seemed to descend on her and not even the thought of seeing Silent could rouse her into her usual good-natured mood. When they slowed, only a brief look was bestowed on their new place before she was helping to unload the bags and suitcases.
“I’m going to sleep for a week…” mumbled to herself as she hauled up her bags to take them inside. First they’d have to sort out who got what room. Or maybe they could all just crash on the floor, one big puppy pile. Nah, that wouldn’t be conducive to the sleeping for a week strategy.
Bags thunked to the floor at her feet once she was inside. A soft whisper, “Honey, we’re home.” Too bad she couldn’t infuse the words with any humor.
Angel had barely slept the whole trip from Hawaii to Rome his mind still thinking on the events from the previous days and how everything had turned out. Leaving everything behind was tough, his job wouldn't be so hard to recover for cops could work anywhere but his La' would be the hardest thing to recover. Mahina had stayed back with their mother in Hawaii and evn though he begged for her to come with the pack she would just say no.
He wasn't going to insist anymore if that was her choice so be it.Angel would follow the pack because he had grown so attached to them and he would be there for anyone of them. All held a special place in his heart for they were family now and would always be like that a family that nothing in this world could break apart.
Thoughts of his Ulfric Ash came to mind as he looked out the windows of the caravan. Where was he and how was he?, Angel had only met one Ulfric before Ash and that was David back in Cali but he never felt as close as he did to Ash. Not having him with the pack right now hurt because he wanted to stay and fight to be alongside his Ulfric but the orders were to go with the pack and he would never disobey Ash.
Angel just kept to himself the entire trip just looking around at the people that were helping the pack into Rome always alert to everything especially after the incident with Ryver. Angel knew little of the boy and of his brother Dr. Malcolm but he knew they could be trusted and he would be a helping hand if they needed one.
The attention then was turned to Lexi who seemed out of it for days. No doubt the loss of loved ones had her this way but hopefully with time he would see her the same as when Angel met the foxy lady.
Finally arriving at a villa Angel got out of the caravan helping to onload the pack and their belongings. Stepping through the doors of the house he could smell Silent's scent it was everywhere she was waiting for her wolves to arrive and they had.
Angel looked around and thought the newest chapter in his life was about to begin in this new dawn.
The moment she got the call that the pack had arrived in Rome..Silent had started cooking...A meal big enough to feed a army. Or better yet..The pack. Running all over the house like a mad woman. Her beast ran wild with the knowledge its pups were almost home.
Then the sound of gravel...And a few loud honks to annouce them had the swamp wolf running at the door...To bad the back door happened to be a glass one that was closed causing her to knock her own ass down to the floor..Yay for no one seeing this right?
Getting up she made for the entrance hall of the villa. Seeing Loke first then Lexi and angel as the others filed in..Loke would be first to tackle..Yes..Tackled to the ground and smothered in kisses. The small black wolf rubbing against its larger sister before going to each. Tears filling her eyes. God she missed them.
Exhasted, Grumpy, Cranky. By god she wasn't expecting Silent's attack. In fact, she wasn't expecting anything but a greeting from Silent but the tackle had her blinking up in shock as lips pressed to her face and the warm splash of tears to touch her face. She blinked a few more times startled before she chuckled low in her throat.
"Well shit."
The black bitch was near in a frenzy of licking, nipping, pawing and yapping at Silent's Swamp wolf. It was enough to make Loke full out laugh. Some of the stress of the long trip melting away as she climbed back to her feet.
"Good to see you too Silent." Chuckling to herself as she dusted herself off. Offering her a one armed hug, it felt right. Felt like home, well felt closer to home.
