"I want you to go to the best schools, and those schools are not available here. Don't worry, we can come back in the summer if you'd like."
"No!"
"Dina, I'm your guardian, and I'm sorry, but you still have to do what I say. Get over it."
Aryca's voice was cold as she spoke to Dina, tough love in her own way. She was the bad guy, always would be when Dina compared herself and Llidya. Llidya was the cool cop who chased down bad guys and had a myriad of scars to go with her stories. But Aryca had been the one to actually raise her, and that was that. She didn't bother to tell Dina that it was Llidya's idea, that she felt she just wasn't ready to get to know her teenage daughter. No, she made herself the bad guy once more, as she loved Dina more than she could possibly know. Loved her enough to hide the truth. "We're leaving tonight. Don't worry, the crew will gather our things for us. Let's go."
Dina was numb, dumbstruck by the suddenness of it all. She didn't have time to say good bye to her friends or anything. She'd have to write emails or call them on the phone. How lame was that? They merely rode in the car towards the air port, and she said nothing, as she knew there was nothing she could say. So that was it. Most likely until she was eighteen. But hey, what was another three years right?
