Breakdown of a System

"Novack!   Someone's hacked the system!"  Nori burst into Novack’s office like some kind of mini whirlwind.  Novack looked up from his report to her face which she managed to make look panicked.

"What?"  Novack dropped the report on to his desk and stood heading toward Nori.  She turned and headed back to her computer room, Novack hot on her heels.  She dropped into the wheelie chair and pulled it to the four screen set up.  She pointed with her mouse toward the mainframe icon double clicking it.

"This, see the RAM, there shouldn't be this much free.   Look, we're missing invoices, emails, our manuals, everything.  Gone."  She was clicking into random folders, each empty and holding nothing. She looked up at Novack who was pale, his hands gripping at his tie, as if trying to choke himself with it.

"Can't you retrieve the information?  Isn't that your specialty?  “His voice wavered, as he stared down at Nori.

She blinked, playing stupid.  "I'm a Server administrator, not a Hacker Novack.  I can see what programs have been altered but that's it.  I'm not a super genius."   She stared up at him, inside cackling like mad, but on the outside that same blank dead eyed stare on the man's red turning face.

"Then we will have to delete everything, blow the whole system so no one can access the information or say that it came from us.  Can you do that from here?"  Novack's hands ran over each other, knuckles turning white with his tension.

"I can but you have to input your password at different times.   Here sit."  Nori rose from the chair but leaned over the keyboard bringing up a MS-DOS screen and typing some random gibberish.   The password screen came up and she stepped back letting Novack wheel himself up to the computer and type in his password twice.  She turned her back to give the illusion of him password being private.

She turned back when he announced he was done.  She ran her fingers over the keyboard quickly before it asked for the password again.  This was repeated for about three minutes, the password bottom popping up three more times.  When it was done, it looked on the surface to the untrained eye that all the paperwork and every hint of evidence was deleted.  Novack eventually left Nori alone in the computer room "to figure out what she could".  This was basically her reactivating the program she had put in.  Loading information back on to the system, information putting HF behind multiple attacks within the last three years and high lighting the human causalities.  Emails from HQ to the Hawaii branch explaining a job well done.  Oh there was no way Novack would get away with anything anymore.  It was just a matter of time before the police came looking, and with there tech teams they would easily be able to find the information she had left; although her programs was invisible even to the most stringent scanning.

Ah, it's good to be so bad.
