After everyone was pretty much settled down, Anna stood from her perch on the couch and went to gather up Ashes attention with a gentle poke to his shoulder. "Might I have your time now Ulfric?" It seemed like a pretty good idea to talk to him now since she had him inside the house and 'not so busy'. A thought to have them wander into his office... Bad idea. Oh so much very a bad idea. "If we could... mind us going outside?" For some reason, being outside always kept her calm. So that's where Anna led him. Away from all the commotion into a quiet siren of the backyard. Well. It wasn't all that.
How to put what been going on in her head into words? Anna slipped her hands into her pockets and took in a deep breath. "I know it's probably not a good time to be bringing my issues up... but, I think someone might send me to a looney bin if I don't get them fixed quick." She could recall when she was watching Mahina's build a bear doll. Listening to it yell at her abd mumble words of disscouragment. Anna took a seat by the pool, not in a chair and crossed those legs indian style.
"A few weeks ago I started hearing voices in my head... Jacklin haunting my dreams... watching everything all over again." She knew he didn't know about what she ment. She'd have to explain...
Of course, those hands werent in her lap, no... they made sure her shirt was either tucked in the back to hid the scars, or making sure that her skirt didn't slid up her sides. The shirt was long enough, but Anna had to make certain that her shirt stayed down.
"Before I moved here to Hawaii... Before I was.. Infected. Before I found out that Jacklin was the white wolf... Just after she and my father were married... She made me...well a doll of a sort." Anna had to wait for questions instead of just rambeling on and on. Mahina was the only one to know about it.
As they walked outside the house and away from the noise being made by the now large group that resided there he didn't speak. Ash had always been comfortable from silence. Not feeling the desire to fill the air with idle chatter. Moving along the grass tickled the soles of his bare feet. She talked and he listened carefully. Not really knowing what she was talking about the whole way through because she was being a bit obtuse. What he did understand however was 'hearing voices'. Seemed to be going around these days. At least he and Silent knew where their voices were coming from. That was at least a little bit better.
When she took a seat beside the pool he remained standing. Buisness suits and swimming pools didn't mix. Not without a heavy dry cleaning bill. A hand slid into the pocket of his slacks and he pulled out a slim black cell phone, dialing a number that had been given to him by a 'friend'. He had thought in the days to come that he might need it. For himself. Now he thought that maybe the universe had brought it to him for Anna Marie.
"I'm not sure that I can help you with this. I can protect you from things here but the demons of your past are different."
Finger dialed the number but he didn't press the call button yet.
"There's a woman here on the island. A renowned psychologist. I think you should consider going to see her. I'd be a very foolish man indeed if I expected to be able to solve everyones problems. There's wisdom this woman has that might be able to clear some things up for you. If you'll let me call her and make the appointment then I'll pay for the sessions. And if you go once and feel uncomfortable then you don't have to go back. Alright?"
Ash asked it as a question, but there was a commanding edge to his voice. He wanted her to get help, and this seemed like the best solution. Barely waiting for her to say yes he hit the call button and let the line ring. When an answering machine clicked in he wasn't surprised. What successful psychiatrist would be available to answer the phone at all hours?
"Miss Hayes, this is Ash Redfern. I have a friend that I would like to get in to see you. We are hoping that you have availability soon. I'm afraid that we really don't have much time to wait. If you aren't available I will just give Doctor Simon a call. Thank you for your time."
Doctor Simon was the other top billed psych on the island. Ash figured that a little healthy competition between the two might help him get Anna in for an appointment.
With delight barely hidden behind a mask of seriousness, Bree watched her last appointment of the day leave. Some part of her felt the barest twinges of guilt at being happy to see the man leave. But then again, Bree chided herself, he did just spend two hours whining about how his mother hadn’t paid any attention to him through his childhood and now through a very successful adulthood. Or something like that, Bree wasn’t really paying attention, too distracted by the view outside of her office.
Having a home office did have it’s advantages. She was free to decorate as she saw fit, with no land lord to worry about, no security deposits to take into consideration if she wanted to knock down the wall. As it happened at the moment, the office was in the best room of the house. An old library converted to suit her professional needs. Dark mahogany book cases lined three out of four walls, with a set of french doors leading out onto a red brick patio that overlooked the azure beach. No one could fault Bree for leaving the doors open during sessions. The soothing sound of the ocean did wonders even for the most jaded souls. And the view wasn’t half bad either. As the heavy office door thudded closed Bree found her gaze lingering on the blue surf just beyond her property line.
The house had come with a section of beach deemed “Private” by a large sign. A notice certain people and their dogs seemed to ignore. At times she was of the mind to ward the area. A tiny perimeter spell to keep out uninvited guests. But the notion of having to work magic in the open and then having to renew the spell time and time again...She simply chose to ignore the interlopers and focus on other things. Just as her thoughts turned to making plans for the evening, Stephanie walked into the office. Without knocking. Again.
“Stephanie, I do believe I have asked you repeatedly to knock first?” The woman had the good sense to blush and eye the door.
“Sorry, I just wanted to give you your messages.” Sighing Bree, lifted her hand, waving off the small indiscretion and reached out for the offered pink papers, watching as Stephanie hurried out of the office, before Bree took the time to look over the notes. Few of the messages were the standard “CALL ME I NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE” those went into the Needy pile. A couple were dinner invitations from fellow colleagues. Nothing romantic, merely to discuss “a business opportunity.” Those went into the trash pile.
Stephanie did an excellent job of sorting her messages from least interesting, to most intriguing, and it was the last note that got her attention. Moving around the ornately carved desk and sat down in an equally opulent chair. The decor was a little on the Baroque side of things, but to her, it felt “homey.” Picking the receiver of the phone, a sleek bit of technology that looked as out of place in the old world office as a Yeti in the middle of a desert, Bree deftly punched in the code to access her voice mail. Leaning back, she listened as a man’s smooth voice stated his demands. Ash Redfern, the name sounded familiar, yet the way he spoke it made Bree wonder if she was supposed to know who he was. Information easily obtained, the rest of the message flittered past till the sneaky bit about some Quack for hire. Well then. A smile slid across her lips as Bree absently hung up the phone and pressed the intercom button, listening to Stephanie scramble to pick up the receiver.
“Yes Bree?”
“Stephanie, do me a favor. Bump Gregory from his appointment tomorrow to Monday. If he starts to complain, tell him the only other available spot is in two months if that’s the one he wants instead. Then clear my afternoon for tomorrow and call this Ash Redfern...does that name sound familiar to you?” “Yes, he’s a Federal Marshall, local Vampire Slayer type. He was in the tabloids a while ago?”
Ah. That would explain it. “Alright, call him back tell him I have an opening tomorrow at noon, he can come by with his friend then.” After letting go off the button, Bree leaned back in her seat, an amused smile once again playing over her lips. Clever man, throwing another doctor’s name into the rink like that. Absolutely the type she’d have loved to get on her couch.
He's not sure if he can help you he says... that means... he's not the one to care. That's what that means Anna. Just another dad...
Anna took in a deep breath and looked down at the bottem of the pool, knee's being pulled up to her chest tight. She heard him reach for his phone... the pounding of buttons on the keypad. Fingers interlocking with arms around her shins. "I can pay for them Ash... that's o-"
He already was leaving a message. Was she that bad? She took in a deep breath and pushed herself up onto her feet, rocking back and forth slightly. Eyes still watching the bottem of the pool... ripples making the bottem drain wave and weave. She took in a sharp breath and stood up with a slow ease. Once he was done on the phone, she turned around and forced a smile.
So now your in it. Now you've got to see a doctor. Watch out Anna, they'll put you in the phyco hall.
"So now... we wait for a call?" Sowly, her head tilted to the right and shoved her hands into her pockets. Eyes watching Ash's intently.
It wasn't that he didn't want to help Anna. This just wasn't his area of expertise. If you could shoot a gun you didn't go hunting. Would he go to Anna and expect her to help him solve crimes. No. At least he had the prescence of mind to get her help. If she couldn't appreciate that then there was little he could do about it. Ash was used to people not understanding the way he did things. Used to being the bad guy because he did things his way. As Ulfric, that was all that he could do.
"She'll take you. When she calls back I'll give you directions to her office, her phone number. I can even take you to your first appointment if you'd like." His voice was soft as he spoke, looking down where she sat. "Everyone sees therapists these days. It's not because you're crazy Anna. Sometimes, we all need someone to talk to."
At the end his voice was a bit wistful. Yes, everyone needed someone to talk to. For him that someone had been Milo, but since the wedding things just hadn't been the same. As it should be Milo was now wrapped up in his beautiful bride and their happy (crazy) family. Ash was happy for them, but he still missed the mans company. As close as the marks made himslef Evie, and Marcus it wasn't the same. Usually they were more concerned with keeping eachother out than letting eachother in especially since Kalika had come to town. Memphis had Dakota, both healing wounds. Lyric was growing up and finding her independant way through the world. Cypress was off with Brady more often than not. The two women in his life he was avoiding because what he needed to talk about more than anything was them, and doing that with one of them seemed counterproductive. So who could he talk to. Who knew him and would understand what he had to say. For a moment he had been lost in his head then he turned to glance sidelong at Anna.
"I think Silent and Alex are in the kitchen if you want to go get some supper love. I'll let you know when the doctor calls back." (See Thread - Picking Up the Pieces for kitchen activity)
Ash waited until Anna went inside before he stood, quiet for a long moment as he held his phone in his hand. With a sigh he finally flipped it open and hit the number 6 on his speed dial. One that he had never thought he would need. It rang four times and instead of a voicemail message there was just a scream mingled with the sounds of what he thought was a woman having an orgasm. Nice touch.
